Couples seeking the sacrament of Marriage need to schedule a meeting with the Pastor before meeting with the Marriage Coordinator. Notification of intent to marry must be provided at least 9 months in advance. Newly registered parishioners observe a three month waiting period before beginning the marriage preparation process.
Additional information on the marriage preparation of the Diocese of Phoenix can be found at www.www.phxmarriageprep.org
As part of wedding preparation at Holy Cross, the bride and groom will need to select all scripture readings that will be used at their wedding, as well as the liturgical music to be used during the ceremony.. This is the responsibility of both the bride and groom together; a joint decision.
The readings that need to be chosen are:
1st reading: Old Testament
Responsorial Psalm: To be sung by cantor
2nd reading: New Testament (epistles, letters)
Gospel: To be proclaimed by the deacon or priest
Please note: Those chosen to proclaim the Scriptures at your wedding do not need to be actual assigned lectors at their parish, but do need to be able to proclaim with clarity of pronunciation, emphasis, and appropriate projection of voice. They should be comfortable with doing this in public. Please have them practice their readings ahead of time so they are comfortable doing so at the Wedding ceremony.
Couples should be prepared to discuss their choices by the time they are to meet with their Wedding Coordinator, so he/she can make preparations for their ceremony.
The Music Director will contact the couple to set a time to meet to discuss the music selections available to them.
