Porters of St. Joseph
OSTIARII SANCTI IOSEPH
“I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” — Psalms 84:10
Who Are the Porters?
Protecting the Blessed Sacrament, our religious, and the Faithful is our vocation! We are a brotherhood of Catholic men at Holy Cross stepping into the breach to defend our parish.
We Are... Men of Virtue
We have chosen St. Joseph — foster father of our Lord and husband of the Blessed Virgin — to be our Patron. We emulate three of St. Joseph’s titles to strengthen our vocations as husbands and fathers:
Protector of the Holy Church
“Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm.” (CCC 2265)
Pillar of Families
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her...” (Eph 5:25)
Terror of Demons
“Herein lies the fullness of masculinity; each Catholic man must be prepared to give himself completely, to charge into the breach, to engage in spiritual combat, to defend women, children, and others...” (Bishop Olmsted)
What Do the Porters Do?
“We Protect the Blessed Sacrament, our religious, and the Faithful.”
