Adult Faith Formation

This a short program that introduces the participant to the teachings of Christ for the purpose of knowing and following Jesus more deeply.  Taught by priests and lay people from around the Diocese, Essentials seeks to:

  • Facilitate conversion to Christ through the Church.
  • Impart the story of salvation history, developing the foundation for Biblical catechesis.
  • Provide an overview of the Church’s mission of evangelization and catechesis.
  • Help adults know the Deposit of Faith through a systematic and complete study of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults.

8 courses consisting of 6 hours of instruction each. Tuesdays 9:15-11:00am from Sep through Apr.

The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults is required. It can be purchased on Amazon for $14. A Catholic Study Bible is highly recommended.

Course registration:
For Holy Cross Parishioners: $10 per course or $70 for all 8 courses
For non-parishioners: $15 per course or $100 for all 8 courses
This helps cover the cost of participant course materials.

Certificates of completion will be provided to those who complete all 8 Essential Courses.

ESS107 Love Your Neighbor — WILL BE RESCHEDULED

Continuing the discussion on the Ten Commandments, this course will discuss the social teachings of the Church, focusing on Commandments Four through Ten, the commandments that order social relationships.


This course examines the nature of Prayer and Christian Spirituality as understood within the Catholic tradition. Participants will become familiar with Church teaching concerning the nature of prayer and in particular the Our Father as the model for all prayer.
